Transformative Wellness Programs

E-newsletter: September

Our studio has been open just shy of two months. Already we have a core of yogis and yoginis who are coming and noticing the transformation that occurs with a regular practice. I want to thank all practitioners that have come from the old studio and new practitioners who are enabling the development of our yoga program. We are constantly adding new classes and will be bringing in workshops for the fall season.

David will now be teaching Mondays at 6:30pm. "David has been practicing Yoga for approximately eight years, and has studied with many different teachers, including those in the traditions of Hatha, Iyengar and Ashtanga. He has done extensive studies into the power of the breath (Pranayama), the movement of energy (Prana) within the body and the effects of meditation. He focuses on strengthening and stretching the body in a balanced way, encouraging proper alignment and teaching his students to move their bodies effortlessly."

I have returned from a research trip in Jackson Hole, Wyoming visiting my friend Steve Jones from Teton Gravity Research www.tetongravity.com. Our first meeting in the mountains between Alaska and B.C. at Tulsequah heli-skiing operation was awe striking only to be matched with the magnificence of the Teton mountain range. More info http://www.transformativewellness.com/jackson .While doing research, meeting and visiting inspiring individuals; our American counterparts have shown an interest in taking a “five day intensive yoga workshop”. Willowstar Squires has been extremely helpful and will take care of the particulars until I arrive. Willowstars email: starrywillow@excite.com phone: 307-413-0053. Please spread the word.

Pose of the Month:

Prasarita Padottanasana
1.Standing in Tadasana (mountain pose)
2. Inhale, hands are placed on the hips and spread the legs one leg length distance.
3. Legs stay straight and unlocked activating the thigh muscles, allowing the thighs to roll in and therefore opening the lower back and sacrum.
4. Exhale, chest/heart leading forward as the buttocks lengthen back and crown of the head extends forward.
5. Notice the weight on the feet, allowing the arches to support the weight.
6. If the hands may comfortably touch the ground hold onto the big toes with your peace fingers, keeping the spine elongated.

Modifications: Start with the knees unlocked and have a wall approximately arm length away. As the crown of the head and buttocks move away from each other and the torso lead by the chest moves parallel to the floor, place the hands on the wall.

Recipe of the Month:

Carrot, Orange and Ginger Fall Cleansing Soup

1 onion
3carrots Simmer 15 min
1 cup water
2 inches ginger root grated and squeeze juice in soup
1 cup water
zest ½ an orange Simmer 10 min
pinch sea salt and pepper
blend and serve with chives as garnish
This soup has warming and nourishing properties. The ginger is especially helpful to increase immunity especially when seasons are changing, like the Fall. Here we have a quick, easy snack or meal to re-hydrate the body, aid digestion and fight off febrile illnesses ( flu and common cold).
Stay Healthy With Traditional Chinese Medicine tip for fall: keep your neck warm, head covered and put on those wool socks when the sun goes down. This will keep the external influences at bay.

Namaste
