E-Newsletter: March 2005
The air is electric, the emotions are fiery, life is budding back
into action. Spring in Traditional Chinese medicine is the time
of growth, the organ ruled by this season is the liver housing emotions
of frustration, irritation and yet inspiration and movement. This
is the time to take action in life using the momentum of this season
we may see change and transformation effect the surroundings, plants,
people, emotions, and our energy.
Yogis and Yoginis, we are at the turning point from the hibernation
of winter to the inspiration and birthing of spring. Here the choice
stands, to do yoga or not to do yoga. Please pick the first, to
do yoga.
Let us spread the inspiration to each other to keep the practice
going.

Recipe of the Month:
Spinach Avocado Salad with Lemon-pepper Vinaigrette
2 avocados,peeled and sliced
¼ cup lemon juice
1 pound of fresh spinach, torn into pieces
½ red onion, thinly sliced
1/3 cup chopped almonds
Place the avocados in a medium-size bowl and toss with the lemon
juice. Place the spinach in a large salad bowl. Add the avocado
slices, onion slices, and sunflower seed: toss gently. Just before
serving, add Lemon-Pepper Vinaigrette and toss again.
Lemon-Pepper Vinaigrette:
½ cup safflower/olive oil
1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice
¼ teaspoon dijon mustard
½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate.
Health tip: Lemon is very effective for those
who have eaten high-fat/protein diet. It destroys putrefactive bacteria
in both the intestines and mouth, used to purify the breath. Its
an antiseptic, anti-microbial, and mucus resolving action makes
it useful during dysentery, colds, flus, hacking coughs, and parasite
infestation.
A squeeze of lemon in a glass of water first thing in the morning
initiates the cleansing process of the body.
Especially as sour is the flavor of the Liver and this is the time
to spring clean in and out.

Pose of the month:
Sirsasana / Headstand
Method:
1. Spread a blanket fourfold on the floor and kneel near it.
2. Rest the forearms on the center of the blanket. While doing
so take care that the distance between the elbows on the floor is
not wider than the shoulders.
3. Interlock the fingers, so that the palms form a cup. Place
the sides of the palms near the little fingers on the blanket. While
going up on to your head or balancing, the fingers should be kept
tightly locked. If there are left loose, the weight of the body
falls on them and the arms ache.
4. Rest the crown of the head only on the blanket, so that the
back of the head touches the palm, which are cupped. Do not rest
the forehead nor the back but only the crown of the head on the
blanket. To do this move the knees towards the head.
5. After securing the head position, raise the knees from the
floor by moving the toes closer to head.
6. Exhale, take a gentle swing from the floor and lift the legs
off the ground with bent knees. Take the swing in such a way that
both feet leave the floor simultaneously. When once this position
is secured, follow the various stages of the leg movement (option
of one foot at a time). Raising them eventually straight up to the
ceiling.
7. After staying in the final position to capacity, from one to
five minutes, flex the knees and slide down to the floor in the
reverse order.
