Traditional Chinese Medicine Tips

In the summer we need to balance our homeostasis (bodies thermostat) with plenty of good quality water, fruits and vegetables.  We keep the body vibrant, healthy and energetic this way.  We gravitate to fresh produce and grains in the summer and fall as it is readily available.

The benefits in general are below:

•alkalizing foods
•very hydrating (lots of water content)
•gently cleansing (cool thermal nature)
•holds abundant amounts of vitamins and minerals
•has lots of fiber to benefit the digestive system

Dental  Health Tips

Here are four easy steps to maintain a healthy and happy mouth.

  1. Brush teeth with proper technique.
  2. Floss teeth after meals and especially be bed.
  3. Brush or scrape tongue in the morning.
  4. Have regular dental cleanings.

Pose of the Month:

Camel Pose (Ustrasana)

  1. Kneel on the floor keeping the knees and feet shoulder width apart with your toes pointed back and resting on the floor.
  2. Rest the palms on the hips. Stretch the thighs, curve the spine back and extend the ribs up and back.
  3. Exhale, place the right palm over the right heal and the left palm over the left heal.  If possible place the palms on the soles of the feet.
  4. Press the feet with the palms, throw the head back and push the spine forward towards the thighs which should be kept perpendicular to the floor.
  5. Contract the buttocks and stretch the dorsal and the coccyx region of the spine still further keeping the neck stretched back.
  6. Remain in this position for 30 seconds with normal breathing.
  7. Release the hands one by one and rest them on the hips then sit on the floor and relax.

Benefits:

People with drooping shoulders and hunched back will benefit greatly from this posture.  The whole spine is stretched back and toned.  This pose can be tried conveniently by the elderly and even with person with spinal injury.
